Recipient Selection Process & Eligibility Requirements
Timeline
Summer/Fall
- Chair recruits Trustees.
Scholarship Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman presents the list to the BCCWA Board.for approval
- Chair sends the BCCWASF Scholarship Application for the current school year to the Lead Counselor at Westwood High School to approve and post on the Westwood & McNeil High School websites for access by the students.
Early January
Board of Trustees of BCCWASF meets to discuss:
- Scholarship guidelines & timeline
- Tentative budget & goals (e.g., number of scholarships to be awarded, additional fundraising targets)
Late March
- Scholarship Applications are received by BCCWASF.
- Applications are assigned an identification number and cleansed of identifying information,, including:
- Student's name, ethnicity, sex, parents’ names, email, etc.
- Each application is assigned a code: M (McNeil) or W (Westwood) + Number (e.g., M1, W1).
- Ensures scholarships are awarded fairly
- Without regard to race, age, gender, religion, political beliefs, or BCC affiliation.
Late March/Early April
- The BCCWASF Chairman sends the applications submitted in electronic format to the trustees for review based on
Scholarship Requirements & Guidelines.
Selections are based on:
- Academic achievement
- Campus & community involvement
- Demonstrated leadership
- Financial need
Mid-April - Ranking by Trustees
- Each Trustee ranks their top candidates at each school.
The number to rank at each school is determined by the BCCWASF Chair. .
- Trustees submit their selections to the BCCWASF Chair, who analyzes common selections and forwards that information to trustees.
Late April – Final Selection Meeting
- Trustees meet in person to discuss and rank the finalists.
- Final list of recipients is determined by the number of scholarships available.
- Final list is approved by consensus of the Board of Trustees.
- Chair contacts each recipient by phone to confirm information & eligibility.
- Recipient list is sent to Lead Counselors at each school and shared with the BCCWA Executive Board.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
✔️ Graduating High School Seniors must meet one of the following criteria:- - Attend Westwood or McNeil High School, OR
- - Be a child of a Balcones Country Club employee (employed for minimum of 2 years), OR
- - Be a Balcones Country Club employee (employed for minimum of 2 years).
✔️ Must be a U.S. citizen.
✔️ Minimum GPA Requirements:- - 4.0+ on a 5.0 scale for College/University students.
- - 3.0+ on a 5.0 scale for Technical, Trade, or Vocational students.
✔️ Must attend an accredited college, university, technical, trade, or vocational school in the U.S. within 1 year of graduation.
✔️ Must submit a fully completed application, including an essay.
✔️ Students who receive a full four-year scholarship are not eligible.
Ineligible Applicants:- - Relatives of current BCCWASF Board of Trustees.
- Thank you for supporting our mission to provide educational opportunities to deserving students!
✔️ Must attend an accredited college, university, technical, trade, or vocational school in the U.S. within 1 year of graduation.
✔️ Must submit a fully completed application, including an essay.
✔️ Students who receive a full four-year scholarship are not eligible.
