BCCWA Scholarship Foundation Process for Selection of Recipients
Timeline *Summer/Fall - Chair recruits trustees. BCCWA President approves and presents list to BCCWA Board. Chair contacts lead counselor at Westwood HS and approves posting of the BCCWASF application on Westwood & McNeil websites for all students to access and apply. *Early January – Board of Trustees of BCCWASF meet to discuss Scholarship Guidelines and timeline. A tentative budget and goals are identified such as number of scholarships to be awarded and any additional fundraising targets. *Late March - Scholarship Applications received by BCCWASF. File of applications is created in random order by school. All identifying information of applicant is removed including name, ethnicity, sex, parents' name, email, etc. Names are replaced by either M for McNeil or W for Westwood and an identifying number (example M1, W1, etc.) *Late March – Trustees receive electronic application file for review according to Requirements and Guidelines. *Mid-April - Each Trustee selects her top 10 candidates from each school, as well as 2 alternates, and sends a list to BCCWASF Chair. Lists are analyzed by Chair for commonalities. *Mid-April - In person meeting of all trustees to discuss and rank the finalists. The final list of recipients is created determined by the number of scholarships available. Final list determined by consensus of Board of Trustees. Chair then contacts each recipient by phone to offer a scholarship confirming information and eligibility to continue with award. Recipient list sent to the Lead Counselors at each school. The BCCWA Executive Board is notified of the names of the recipients.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements *Student must be a graduating high school senior from Westwood High School or McNeil High School OR be a graduating high school senior, who is graduating from a local high school and who is the child of a Balcones Country Club employee who has been employed at Balcones Country Club for a minimum of two years OR be a graduating high school senior who is graduating from a local high school and is an employee of BCC for a minimum of two years. *Student must be a U.S. citizen. *Student must have a GPA of 4.0 or higher on a 5.0 grading system for those attending College/University OR 3.0 or higher on a 5.0 scale for those attending a Technical, Trade, or Vocational School. *Student must attend a college, university, technical, trade, or vocational school in the U.S. within one year of graduation. *Student must submit a fully completed application including an essay. *Students who receive a full four-year scholarship are not eligible.
Selection Guidelines *Selections are made with consideration to academic achievement, financial need, campus involvement, and community involvement. *Relatives of the current BCCWASF Board of Trustees are ineligible. *Scholarship recipient selections will be made without regard to race, age, gender, religion, political beliefs, BCC affiliation or any other factor which would constitute unfair or illegal discrimination.
